MINISTRIES AND COMMITTEES OF OUR CHURCH
Micah, a messenger of God, announced our mandate for ministry like this: “God has made it plain how to live, what to do, and what God is looking for in men and women. It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love.” (Micah 6:8, “The Message” translation)
LABC has a long and vital tradition of linking congregational life with outreach to the wider community. This tradition gives expression to the shared conviction that the church exists to proclaim how God intends the human family to live together, and that entails preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Word and in deeds of compassion and justice building. Our attention is focused on building caring relationships among members and friends while also engaging in ministries embodying God’s love for our neighbors.
The various organized ministries and committees of the lay members and friends of
the church are described through the several links provided below or in the masthead
options. Each Ministry carries out a portion of the vision, mission, and purpose
of LABC. All members and friends are encouraged to participate in a Ministry suitable
with their God-
INVITATION AND WELCOME MINISTRY
Visitors first encounter LABC through the Invitation and Welcome Ministry. The Ministry Team members help to create a spirit of generous hospitality for newcomers, church members and friends of the church. This ministry team coordinates outreach and evangelism activities, provides volunteers at the Welcome Table in the narthex, greeters at the doors, and ushers for the sanctuary. In addition, the Team develops publicity strategies as a witness to the wider community about what God is doing with LABC, and to invite others to visit our worship and other church activities.
NURTURE AND CARE MINISTRY
Inquirers about church membership will be served by the Nurture and Care Ministry Team. Team members will help prospective members discern whether the LABC community is where God wants them to be, and if so, they will be welcomed and introduced to the church and its ministries.
This Ministry Team also serves to coordinate the various groups involved with nurture and care of members, namely, the Welcoming and Affirming Ministry, the American Baptist Women, Table Fellowship Groups, the Care Ministry, and the Sunday Hospitality Committee which provides refreshments for the Fellowship Hour.
RESOURCE SUPPORT MNISTRY
Stewardship of LABC staff, property, and financial resources is the charge to the Resource Support Ministry. Its members oversee personnel practices for the church and ensure the Pastoral Relations Committee functions appropriately. They also manage the church’s property, including building maintenance and renovations.
The Resource Support Ministry also leads the annual Stewardship Campaign and development of the annual budget. In addition, bequests and investments are managed by this Ministry. Related ministries focused on Planned Giving and Endowment are coordinated by the Resource Support Ministry.
