American Baptist Churches of the Rochester/Genesee Region
This is the name of our local denominational association, a group of more than thirty local churches throughout the Monroe County area, as well as two churches from outside the geographic region, one in Granville, Ohio and the other in San Leandro, California. For more information, see the web site for the ABC Churches of the Rochester/Genesee Region.
Edgerton Area Neighborhood Association
Since its founding, Lake Avenue has participated in the Edgerton Area Neighborhood Association, a neighborhood organizing group open to all who live, work and worship in this part of Rochester. With this organization we have begun to work for the revitalization of one of our most distressed streets, Fulton Avenue, through improved housing, affordable home ownership, street improvements, and neighborhood outreach. We also annually sponsor with Edgerton the Jones Park Festival, an opportunity for neighbors to meet each other held in August.
Cameron Community Ministries
Cameron Community Ministries (CCM) is an urban Christian outreach ministry based in northwest Rochester in the Lyell-Otis neighborhood. Its programs have been developed to meet the needs of a neighborhood where a significant number of families live in poverty. CCM also serves as a place where people from local churches, schools, and other organizations can server their community in active ways. CCM supports programs such as the Kids Café, hot lunch program, four youth groups, Reading Partners after school program, the Clothing House, and many other programs.
M.E.E.K.
Our ecumenical food cupboard is housed not far away in the building of Grace United Methodist Church. Volunteers from this and neighboring churches offer emergency food for neighbors, as well as Christmas dinners for families and individuals referred by local churches and others. Lake Avenue has been part of this all-volunteer organization since its inception.
Fairport Baptist Homes
A ministry supported both by our local church and denominational association, Fairport Baptist Homes offers a warm and resident-friendly approach to nursing care, as well as quality residence for seniors who live independently. A number of FBH staff belong to our church. Others volunteer. And the church includes support of the Homes through its Mission Budget.
Community Dinner
The Community Dinner is served at Lake Avenue Baptist Church on the 1st and 3rd Thursday evenings at 6:00 pm (unless a holiday interferes). It is prepared and served by members of LABC and its friends. It is served to local community friends, LABC members and all who want to share a free meal together in fellowship. Sometimes there are planned activities after the dinner hour. For LABC members and friends, it is a wonderful opportunity to meet and have fellowship with people who live in the immediate neighborhood. We can also learn of the community needs and challenges by listening to prayer concerns and conversation with our neighborhood friends. If you have a passion to serve, a talent to cook, or just want to meet some new friends; inquire with someone on the Mission Team to find out more.
